What started as a sociable kick-about back in August 1999 has grown into something truly special. Our club chairlady Sharon Reason was encouraged to set up a local ladies team, and from those humble beginnings - progressing quickly from friendlies to competitive league football and our first girls Saturday morning sessions - AALGIFC was born.

25 years later, we're proud to be one of the biggest girls and women's football clubs in Leicestershire, the East Midlands, and even nationally! We now have over 250 girls and women playing across 17 teams under our AALGIFC banner, including our thriving Inclusive section which has been running for approximately 20 years - a far cry from those early days of boggy pitches, baggy kits and scrambling around for 11 players.

We welcome players from age 4 to 18+ of all abilities. Our teams train and play across 3 venues. We train at Long Field Spencer Academy on grass pitches during summer months and at John Ferneley College's floodlit 3G all-weather pitch in winter. Our junior teams play their home matches at Long Field (moving to the 3G pitch in adverse weather conditions), while our adult teams play at Holwell Sports and Social Club.

Our Ladies 1st Team perfectly demonstrates the progress this club has made - in the 2024/2025 season alone, they earned over £10,000 in prize funds reaching the Women's FA Cup 1st Round Proper, bringing tier 3 semi-professional side Wolverhampton Wanderers to Holwell! The 2024/2025 season brought even more success with our U13s crowned league champions, while our U12s Gems, U14s, and U16s won the Leicestershire Women's & Girls Football League Fair Play Respect Award. We were also thrilled to win Grassroots Club of the Year at the Festival of Women's Football Awards.

Our success stems from the incredible hard work of our amazing volunteer workforce - all 50+ of them! This huge number shows the dedication within our community, and frankly, the club simply wouldn't exist without them. Every volunteer is DBS checked and holds relevant FA qualifications for their role, from Introduction to Coaching Football (Level 1) through to UEFA B Diploma (Level 3), plus Safeguarding, Player Welfare and First Aid in Football. Run by the community, for the community - it's what makes AALGIFC so special.

From those first kick-abouts to cup runs and everything in between, AALGIFC continues to grow, inspire, and provide opportunities for girls and women to fall in love with football. We're not just building players - we're building futures.
